Cruising With Us

Cruising is a great way to learn to sail, relax and enjoy being on the water.

If you have never sailed before or have little experience, please be assured that there are opportunities to learn as you go cruising. You can receive formal training once you have sailed a few times and feel confident to progress. The best way is to take the plunge and sign up for a trip - it's also a great way to meet new people.

Usually our yachts sail out of the River Hamble keeping to the safe and secluded waters of The Solent.  But on a weekend, you could be sailing east towards Chichester or west towards Poole.  Ariel is away from the Hamble for several weeks in the summer for our club summer cruise in France, the Channel Islands, Ireland or further afield. The boats sail from March to November, when we run the following cruising trips:

  • Weekend and mid-week cruising in and around the Solent, Poole, Chichester, Isle of Wight and further afield.
  • Week long cruising - recently we've been to Ireland, France, the Channel Islands and along the West coast to Devon and Cornwall.

A weekend trip or a one day taster (Newbie Trip) is usually the best way to start. For a weekend trip crews usually join the boat on Friday evening. On Saturday, the skipper briefs everyone before setting off and every crew member is expected to join in sailing the boat and share the chores. To find out more about sailing with us, please read the beginners guide.

Cruising is a great way to begin to learn to sail. Why not book a one day taster trip or a weekend on the water. You  can come along for a trial sail before joining the Yacht Club. All our skippers are happy to take beginners and show them the ropes.
