We actively participate in a range of racing events throughout the year, offering you the opportunity to develop your skills and enjoy competitive sailing. Most racing is on Prospero of Hamble, as she is equipped for fast, exciting racing. But Ariel of Hamble also enjoys a few racing events during the sailing season.
We compete in both the Spring Race Series (March–April) and the Winter Race Series (October–November) on the Solent. Races are typically held on Sundays. Novice racers are encouraged to develop their skills through organised training days, held before a racing event, in order to support their confidence handling the boat in a race.
We also take part in other prestigious south-coast regattas such as Cowes Week, Round the Island Race and Dartmouth Regatta.
Racing is exhilarating and great fun! It brings significant benefits to our members, not only by providing a variety of sailing experiences but also by honing their skills to react quickly and get the yacht sailing as fast as possible. While good results are always rewarding, the true value of racing lies in participation, teamwork and learning. No matter your experience level, racing with us is a fantastic way to challenge yourself and enjoy the camaraderie of competitive sailing. Not to mention the fun après Regatta social scene. We welcome those new to racing, and many of our members have progressed to become skilled and experienced crew.
Whenever a club boat goes racing, there will be a Skipper, Mate and two Crew Members who are experienced yacht racers. This ensures that we always have a core team of sailors who can help train crew members new to racing.
Our ideal racing crew set up is having seven people of mixed abilities and for safety reasons, we reserve the right to only take crew members with some previous sailing experience.
If you want to fast track your way into yacht racing, join one of our race training days to prepare you for your first race.
